FHRI thought…

Fiji’s transition post the Independence in 1970 was to become a very Holistic and an engaged Nation that would nurture the local talent as it gains its foot in developing the Nation, thus three (3) decades down the lane on 25th August 2005, the formation of Fiji Human Resources Institute (FHRI) with the aim once again – “Developing the Nation”.

Fiji Human Resources Institute (FHRI) was a thought in the incubator in the year 1998 – 2000 by its founders, this was when Fiji, was moving forward with the Labour Reforms, i.e. Employment Relations Act and the HASAWA.

This was also the era of “personnel management” in various organizations. The beginning saw a shift and transition from the introduction of Fiji’s National Productivity Organization (NPO), the program on Strategic Human Resources Management via the University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia. Till the 2002 – 2004, the organizations embraced Human Resources Management in the key positions to align to a global change effect.

This was also an era where productivity was thriving in the Nations development through the small to medium enterprises to large corporate organizations. There was a new wave that was transacting into Fiji’s workforce. Thus, once again the discussion around Fiji’s Leaders and Founders commenced in 2003 and 2004 in the formation of the Fiji Human Resources Institute (FHRI) with the vision to provide a platform to compliment a new generation of human resources practitioners in alignment to global changes.

The years of 2003 and 2004 was very challenging years for FHRI leading to its formation in August 2005. The Founders then were looking at Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) as the benchmark, given, AHRI, was formed in 1943, with its strong foot with 62 years of expertise. AHRI was formed in 1943 as the Personnel and Industrial Welfare Officers Association.
